Baseball is hard to judge
on results alone.
A hitter can crush a line drive straight at the second baseman and go 0-for-1. Another can bloop a ball nobody could catch and go 1-for-1. The scorebook treats the second at-bat as the good one.

Squared up, well-struck, caught. Nothing in the box score separates it from a weak swing.
The long plate appearance
Nine pitches, two foul-offs with two strikes, a pitcher visibly tiring. Recorded as an out.

Quality at-bats
Define productive, then count it
A quality at-bat is any plate appearance that gives the team value through its result, its execution, or its quality. Hits, walks, hit by pitch, advancing a runner, driving in a run, and the other productive outcomes — logged during the game rather than reconstructed afterwards.
It does not replace batting average. It adds the context batting average was never able to carry.

Make effort measurable
Aggressive baserunning. Taking the extra base. Beating out a play. The diving stop. These are exactly the behaviours coaches spend all season asking for, and exactly the ones that vanish by Monday.

Is this a scorekeeping app?
No. It deliberately does not try to be. Hit & Hustle Tracker records quality at-bats and hustle plays — the things a conventional scorebook cannot hold. Keep scoring however you already do.
Do I need Diamond Data PRO to use it?
No, they work independently. But they share one account, and a DDP team can be imported into HHT in a single step, which is how most coaches end up using both.
If I import a team, are the two linked?
No — it is a one-time copy. After the import, editing the HHT team does not change the DDP team and vice versa. Clearing HHT data never touches Diamond Data PRO.
Can parents see it?
Yes, if you want them to. Team sharing supports owner, coach and viewer roles, so you can give families read-only visibility without risking your data.
Does it work for softball?
